About Artist 최지원은 생명과 죽음의 간극, 현재와 미래가 교차하는 진공의 공간을 탐구하며 그 틈새에 위치한 세계를 표현한다. 그는 액자나 문, 블라인드 등의 사물을 삶과 죽음의 간극을 넘나드는 상징적 포털로 활용하며, 인형, 공예품, 박제된 곤충 등 일상에서 수집하고 관찰한 인공/자연물의 형태를 빌어 생경한 에너지가 교차하는 진공의 챔버를 형성한다. 도자기 인형을 포함하여 그의 작품에서 등장하는 개체들은 주로 삶을 다했음에도 여전히 살아 있어 작가의 현재에 영향을 끼치는 대상들이다. 그들은 현실적인 차원의 것이기 보다 동시대 구성원들의 삶의 의미와 작가 본인이 처한 세계를 이해하고자 하는 상징적 행위의 결과물로 볼 수 있다.
Jiwon Choi explores the space between life and death—a void where the present and future converge—capturing the world within this gap. She creates chambers of vacuum where secretive energies intersect, using frames and doors as portals between the realms of life and death. Through various artificial and natural elements collected from everyday life, such as dolls, crafts, and taxidermied insects, Choi brings these worlds together. The objects in her works, including porcelain dolls, are often things that have ended their life yet continue to influence the artist’s present. Thus, these objects serve as a symbolic effort to understand the lives of her contemporaries and the world she inhabits, rather than merely reflecting reality.
