박지나의 회화는 개인이 몸담은 세계가 주변 타자로부터 다양한 의미로 관찰되는 방식과 그로 인한 해석의 결과물을 수반한다. 화면에 콜라주 되어 등장하는 도상은 작가가 다양한 문화권의 박물관, 동물원, 식물원에서 본인의 사적 취향에 따라 재수집한 개체들이다. 각각의 이미지 파편은 그가 구성한 화면 안에서 자의적인 규칙에 따라 새롭게 배열되며, 이후 이 기호들의 역할은 감상자의 학습된 취향과 편견, 인식의 기준에 따라 또 한 번 새롭게 재정립된다. 상징적 요소들이 담지하는 열린 해석의 가능성을 중요시하는 작가의 태도는 여러 계층과 집단의 가치관이 혼재된 동시대 환경에서 살아가는 이들이 주지해야 할 시각과 일맥상통한다.

Jina Park’s paintings explore how the world in which an individual exists is observed and interpreted in various ways by others. The motifs collaged onto the canvas are objects that the artist has personally collected from museums, zoos, and botanical gardens across different cultures. The fragments of each image are rearranged according to arbitrary rules within her compositions. The role of each symbol is then redefined through the viewer’s learned tastes, biases, and perceptions. The artist’s emphasis on the open interpretive possibilities of iconic symbols aligns with the perspective of individuals living in a contemporary environment, where the values of different classes and groups are intertwined.
