About Artist 이채원은 지구를 구성하는 비인간 존재들을 그가 만들어낸 상상의 공간으로 초대한다. 그의 회화는 꿈속의 한 장면처럼 아름답고 이상적이지만 동시에 인간이 파괴했거나 이미 지워버렸을 자연의 면면들을 상기시킨다. 몽글몽글하게 뭉쳐진 눈덩이와 구름, 크고 작은 동물과 식물 개체들, 그 사이를 가로지르는 사막, 호수, 그리고 심해 등으로 이루어진 회화 연작들은 작가가 상상한 세계가 맞은 최후의 풍경이자 일종의 유토피아와도 같다. 익숙하고도 낯선 풍경에 소환된 이들은 현실을 초월한 신화 속 주인공처럼 보이기도 하는데, 이는 작가가 자연에 지닌 애정을 상징적으로 드러낸다. 그의 화면 안에서 서로 다른 존재들은 기후나 중력과 관계없이 표류하며 신비로운 이야기를 이어 나간다.
Chaewon Lee calls various non-human beings that live on the Earth into the imaginary space she created. Her paintings are beautiful and idealized, like scenes from a dream, but at the same time remind us of the aspects of nature that humans have destroyed or have already erased. The series of paintings, consisting of fluffy snow and clouds, large and small animals and plants, and the deserts, lakes, and deep seas across them, is like the last scene and a kind of utopia that the artist imagined. Summoned to a landscape that is both familiar and unfamiliar, they appear to be mythical characters who have transcended reality, symbolizing the artist’s affection for nature. Different beings in her screen drift regardless of climate or gravity and continue their mysterious stories.
