About Artist 장예빈은 미디어에서 흘러가는 이미지들을 멈추게 하고 그 찰나의 순간을 관찰하는 일에 흥미를 느낀다. 그중에서도 스포츠, 영화, 동영상 등에 등장하는 신체가 극적으로 움직이는 때에 응집되는 에너지를 발견하고 이를 회화로 옮긴다. 통제의 영역을 벗어난 짧은 시간의 간극에서 감지되는 근육의 쓰임이나 일그러진 표정은 화면 안에서 위트 있는 서사와 긴장감을 동시에 생산한다. 고개를 돌리는 찰나, 미간을 찌푸리는 순간, 날아오는 손을 피하려는 움직임 등은 숨 가쁘게 재생되는 미디어 환경에서 작가의 손을 통해 추출된다. 실제로 존재하지 않을 법한 기이한 장면은 작가와 관찰자로 하여금 정지된 이미지 너머에 잠재되어 있을 시간의 추이를 상상할 자유를 부여한다. 작가는 매끈하게 다듬어진 디지털 환경을 보다 자의적인 방식으로 흡수하고 이해하는 방법론을 구축함으로써 피동적인 수용자의 위치에서 벗어나 능동적인 사용자가 될 수 있다.
Yebin Chang is interested in stopping images flowing in the media and observing the fleeting moment. She finds the condensed energy when the body moves dramatically in sports, movies, and videos, then take it to the painting. The use of muscles or distorted expressions detected in a short time gap evokes both witty narratives and tension on the canvas. The moment of turning their head, frowning, and ducking the punch are extracted through her from the breathtaking media environment. Bizarre scenes that may not exist in reality make the artist and audiences free to imagine the passage of time that would be latent beyond the still image. By building a methodology to absorb and understand the refined digital environment arbitrarily, Chang can move away from a passive recipient and become an active user.
