디지털 낭만주의를 꿈꾸는 맥심 브란트의 회화에는 미디어와 주변 환경에서 수집한 이미지들이 모여있다. 그는 시의 함축적 논리를 작품에 적용하며, 자신의 디아스포라적 경험 및 동시대 이슈, 미술사적 참조 등을 상징적으로 그려낸다. 그의 화면에 주로 등장하는 ‘집’과 ‘캔버스’ 같은 레이아웃은 실재와 허구, 현재와 과거를 잇는 상징적 모티프들을 채워 넣을 수 있는 일종의 개념적 틀로서 기능한다. 혼란스럽고도 아름다운 각각의 유토피아는 해학과 은유로 가득 찬 곳으로서 일상과 꿈, 인간과 비인간, 현재와 과거, 자연과 문명 간의 벽을 허물고 가상의 장면이 침투할 수 있는 여백을 만든다.
Maxim Brandt creates paintings that embody digital romanticism, composed of images gathered from media and his surroundings. He applies the implicit logic of poetry to his work, symbolizing his diasporic experience, contemporary issues, and art historical references. The recurring layout of the ‘house’ and ‘canvas’ function as a conceptual framework filled with symbolic motifs that bridge reality and fiction, present and memories. Each chaotic yet beautiful utopia he constructs is rich in allegory and metaphor, dissolving the boundaries between everyday life and dreams, human and non-human, present and past, nature and civilization. Through this, Brandt creates a space where fictional scenes can penetrate reality.
