About Artist 김대운은 흙과 유약이 구현할 수 있는 미학적 가능성을 탐구한다. 특히 그는 도자를 제작하는 데 수반되는 제스처를 3차원의 실체로 확장하는 실험을 지속하고 있다. 그의 작업에는 일그러진 선과 면이 엇갈린 기하학적 형태나 색채의 중첩이 나타나며, 실용성을 중시하는 기존 도예의 문법에서 벗어난 불안정한 리듬이 도드라진다. 또한 작가의 의지로 쌓아 올려진 점토와 안료는 보이지 않는 가마 속에서 우연적으로 흘러내리고 균열을 만들며 예상치 못한 표면으로 변모한다. 의도와 우연이 겹쳐진 결과물은 다시금 바닥과 벽을 포함한 다양한 장소적 맥락에 열린 상태의 존재로 놓이며, 중력과 사용 목적에서 자유로워진 도자 예술의 가능성을 제시하고자 한다.
Dan Kim explores the aesthetic possibilities that soil and glaze can embody. In particular, he continues to interrogate with expanding the gestures involved in ceramics production to three-dimensional entities. His work consists of the appearance of geometric shapes with distorted lines and faces or overlapping colours. It emphasizes an irregular rhythm that deviates from the grammar of conventional ceramics that value practicality. In addition, the clay and pigments piled up by the will of the artist accidentally flow out in the kiln, create cracks, and be transformed into unexpected surfaces. The overlapped intention and coincidence results are once again placed as the beings of open states in various spatial contexts, including floors and walls. Therefore, Kim presents the possibility of ceramic art being free from gravity and the purpose of its use.
