About Artist 유지영은 회화의 물리적, 개념적 지지체들을 재조합하거나 해체하며 매체의 존재 방식에 질문을 던진다. 그는 미술의 역사에서 회화에 강요되어 왔던 고정적 인식을 재고하는 실험을 체계적으로 수행한다. 형상을 담는 그릇으로 여겨지는 캔버스로부터 이미지를 의도적으로 탈각시키거나, 지지체 자체에 구멍을 내어 평면의 기능을 제거한다. 3차원의 오브제와 납작한 붓질을 중첩시켜 회화의 환영적 공간에 균열을 내기도 한다. 최근에는 특정한 사물(시계, 달력, 서랍 등)에 내재된 사용 규칙을 작업에 접목시켜보며, 기능을 잃은 오브제의 껍데기와 복제물이 작품의 부분적 요소이자 회화 기호의 연쇄적 논리를 상징하는 대용물로 기능하게끔 한다.
Jiyoung Yoo recombines or disassembles physical and conceptual supporters of painting to question the way media exists in the present. She systematically conducts experiments to reconsider the static perception that has been forced on painting in the history of art. Yoo intentionally gets rid of the image from the canvas, which is considered a container of shapes, or makes a hole in the supporters to remove the function of the plane. Recently, she applies the logic of usage embedded in certain objects (watches, calendars, drawers, etc.) into her work. The experiment allows the skin and copies of objects that have lost their original function to become the symbolic substitute of the serial logic of painting.
